The resin of the incense tree is called frankincense. The name of this tree family is Boswellia. Many varieties exist, mainly in Africa but also in Arabia and India. It is one of the most sought-after gum-resins, along with myrrh or copal, and its history goes back a long way. It made the fortune of certain regions of the world that controlled the trade along the incense route (Egypt, Yemen, India, etc.). It is also the famous incense resin offered as a gift by the Three Kings, along with myrrh and gold, on the occasion of their visit to the Infant Jesus.
