Gum Arabic in Chunks

Our gum arabic is a high quality Acacia senegal gum from Sudan (kitir). It is a hard gum with an orange colour. If the pieces seem too big, it is very easy to reduce them to small fragments. Place them in a small plastic bag and hit them with a hammer. You can also grind it into powder in a mortar.

Gum Arabic Powder or Cordofan

Very fine powder of Acacia senegal gum or Cordofan. Also used in food under the code name E414. It is the same type of resin as the pieces, from Sudan, from the Kordofan region where it gets its name.

In powder form it can also be used as a binder in the manufacture of certain types of incense.

Traces of the use of gum arabic can be found as far back as 3,000 years before our era. It is mainly harvested in Saharan Africa (Egypt, Mali, Chad, etc.) and comes from trees of the genus Acacia. The best quality comes from Sudan.
